The N85 Western Relief Road is constructed from Claureen on the existing N85 Ennistimon Road. It is extended southwards, crossing the N68 at Cahircalla, and the existing N18 north of Killadysert Cross to connect with the new N18 Eastern Bypass route at Killow.

N2 Clontibret to Castleblayney Road Scheme

The total length of the road is 15.8 km, which is constructed 2+1 lanes in high quality. Moreover, there are 12 bridges constructions in the scope of the project, 6 of which are underpass bridges and 6 Culverts. Monaghan County Council propose to realign the N2 National Primary Route over a length of 15.9 km between the town lands of Moy Otra, near Clontibret village, and Drumcrew on the Carrickmacross Road, just south of Castleblayney.

The project includes for the provision of a 2+1 lane road, a three-lane road with two lanes in one direction of travel and one lane in the other. This road type provides safe two-lane overtaking zones, which alternate with one-lane sections, at intervals of approximately 2 km. The traffic streams are separated by a safety barrier which prevents overtaking manoeuvres on the single-lane sections. Right turning will only be permitted at designated junctions to reduce the number of conflict areas and to enhance safety.
