6×112 MW Birecik Hydroelectric Power Plant and Birecik Dam

The Birecik Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant is the first major project in Turkey to be implemented on finance-built-operate-transfer basis. Birecik Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant is located on the Euphrates river in the South Eastern part of Turkey.

The Birecik Dam and 6×112 MW Hydroelectric Power Plant Project is completed by Birecik Barajı ve Hidroelektrik Santralı Tesis ve İşletme A.Ş., a Turkish company with domestic and also foreign capital. GAMA holded 20% of the shares in the company, whose other shareholders were Türkiye Elektrik Üretim/İletim A.Ş. (TEAŞ), Holzmann Anlagen GmbH (Germany), Strabag Österreich A.G. (Austria), GEC Alsthom ACEC Energie S.A. (Belgium), CEGELEC ACEC S.A. (Belgium), CEGELEC S.A. (France), GEC Alsthom S.A. (France), Sulzer Hydro GmbH (Germany), Verbund Plan G.m.b.H. (Austria) and TGT A.Ş.

The commercial operation started in October 2001 with commissioning of all six units. The facility is transferred to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources after 15 years of operation.
